Meat Yield Estimation Scanning Rig
Motivation
This project involved the design and implementation of an automated cow scanning rig that utilises hyper-spectral imaging technology to analyse meat density. The rig is capable of scanning cows in a controlled environment, capturing high-resolution images, and processing them using advanced algorithms to determine meat quality and density. The project aimed to improve the efficiency and accuracy of meat quality assessment in the agricultural industry.
My Role
At the early stage I was involved, the initial mechanical prototype was completed. I joined the team for the initial wire up and driver integration for the motors and cameras. Running Ubuntu 12.02 and ROS Fuerte project required basic dynamixel integration, establishing a CAN network, syncing all motor movements and setting up a simple scanning strategy recording positions and camera data.
Project progressed significantly, including major system overhauls post my involvement but some incredible results followed and was the first professional system I was involved with producing plenty of learnings in robust electrical design and stable software dev.
